Case Study: Perini Corporation

The Situation

Since 2005, Braver has worked with Perini Corporation, a world-wide publicly held construction company on numerous projects. In January 2007 Perini was awarded an 18 million construction project in the United Kingdom. The company was hired by the U.S. Department of Defense to upgrade an air station in Menwith, U.K.  Since the project was overseas, Perini knew it would need assistance navigating the complicated taxation issues between the United States and the United Kingdom that were sure to arise for both employees and the company.

What Braver Did

Braver provided a strategic plan and guidance to Perini to ensure a smooth transaction of taxes for all involved. As a member of MGI, a global association of independent accounting and consulting firms, Braver coordinated with and managed a member firm in London in the preparation of taxation plans and in determining problem-solving strategies.

Braver also created a tax equation plan for U.S. citizen employees working in the UK to project the cost of additional taxes. Through its London affiliate, Braver made sure that the tax returns for ex-patriots included both UK and US taxes and the Braver team developed comprehensive tax plans to reimburse employees the difference in tax liabilities for each country.

The Outcome

Braver and their affiliate were able to ensure that Perini employees overseas experienced a smooth transition with regard to tax issues. Throughout the course of the project Braver and MGI monitored and continue to monitor Perini payroll and maintain records of all employee international and domestic tax returns. Perini’s relationship with Braver – and the knowledge that the complicated US to UK tax issues are being handled by an experienced and knowledgeable firm – has allowed Perini to successfully proceed with the air station project in the United Kingdom.
